First Steps.
To work in a local authority school in Scotland you must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS)
This process is not a difficult one, but to help you on your way here is some basic information about registering.
Depending on your teaching qualification, the GTCS will register you as eligible to teach Primary or Secondary Education.
The subject (or subjects) you’re registered for will depend on three things:
- your academic qualifications
- your professional qualifications,
- and your teaching experience.
To find out more, visit www.infoscotland.com/teaching
If you see any posts on our website that you are interested in, you can either contact us direct, and we will then help you take the right next steps to make applying for that post a reality. Or you can become registered first, and then start looking for suitable jobs. You can do this by getting in touch with the Exceptional Admissions Department of the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). Call them on +44
(0)131 314 6038 or email teachinginscotland@gtcs.org.uk
Alternatively download the application form and information leaflets from www.gtcs.org.uk - you can also call the GTCS on +44
(0)131 314 6000.
When you apply, you’ll be given a personal contact within the GTCS - someone who will manage your application.
